Welcome to the Martin Luther University
As the Rektor of one of the oldest German-speaking universities that recently celebrated its 500th anniversary, I am pleased to welcome you to our international webpage.
The Martin Luther University has a reputation for its excellent and competitive research and teaching. Following the theme, “Progress based on Tradition”, the University draws its identity from its rich heritage, but at the same time conducts leading-edge research within an international context and offers teaching in over 200 degree courses. Our University hosts all four classical university subjects, that is theology, philosophy, law, and medicine, as well as many other disciplines from life and material sciences to social sciences and humanities.
We are proud of the growing number of international researchers and the rising proportion of international students – at present more than 1,500 from around 100 different countries – at the Martin Luther University. Many lectures and seminars are taught in English, and students can enrol in English-language degree schemes. From October 2006/2007 onward, there will be a wide range of BA and MA degree courses available.
The University is inextricably linked with its host city Halle (Saale). 1200 years of cultural heritage provide the city with much to offer to its academic and student community. – Please feel invited!
